Explanation

How does Sound Classification work?

Sound Classification is the process of understanding the presented audio file as a whole, determining the correct labels that can be used to describe the audio file.

Sound Classficiation will - just as Image Classification - take the presented sample as a whole and feed it to a neural network consisting of multiple layers. These layers will individually activate based on certain features eventually composing a label that can be detected. It will then return a probability of the identified labels. Instead of now presenting pixels to the Neural Network, we are presenting the different audio values based on 128 mel bins that were extracted from the sample.

The process of Sound Classification can be described in a few simple steps:

  1. PreProcess: We resample the audio file to 16 kHz and trim it to the correct length
  2. Infer: We run the audio sample through the neural network that was trained for this task.
  3. PostProcess: Once a result is achieved, we are presented the identified labels and their accuracy
